New update for LIAM
Light Identity Access Management allows you to add AD groups
The latest update to the Consulting4IT LIAM add-on enables companies to manage permissions even more easily and efficiently. Starting now, users can request AD group permissions directly and immediately through the Matrix42 Self Service Portal—a significant time saver for the IT department.
Waldbronn, November 13, 2023: The Matrix42 add-on LIAM – Light Identity Access Management – was developed specifically by Consulting4IT to automate the process of requesting permissions and thereby significantly reduce the workload on IT. This is based on the Matrix42 Service Catalog, which, when used with LIAM, enables users to request (NTFS) folder or Microsoft Teams permissions and create new folders, among other things. The latest update to LIAM now also simplifies the process of requesting permissions for AD groups, saving the IT department time and effort.
AD group permissions available as a service
This new feature enables the import of all AD groups and their mapping as a booking service in the Matrix42 Service Catalog. This means that individual users can now request enrollment in specific AD groups independently via the self-service portal without having to seek assistance from the IT department. What’s more, users can also choose between read-only, write, or owner permissions. The automated approval process then proceeds through the designated owners, who can approve or reject the request. And that’s not all: with this update, it will also be possible to create entirely new Active Directory groups directly from LIAM. Overall, this will further enhance user-friendliness and relieve the IT department of additional time-consuming processes.
Example: In addition to use cases involving shared mailboxes or mailing lists, this new feature can also be used to manage application AD groups. So, if a user wants access to an AD group that grants them permissions for a specific application, they can request it via LIAM through the Matrix42 Self Service Portal—without IT having to process a ticket or separately ask the person in charge for approval. A single click initiates the process, which is typically completed within minutes. This makes using the Service Catalog even more appealing to users and frees up IT’s time for other projects.
Speed and transparency – the benefits
Because the process is fully automated, it saves a significant amount of time that would otherwise have been required if IT had to handle it manually, which would have entailed considerable effort. By offloading this task from IT, IT staff gain more time to focus on other projects. On the other hand, this approach also significantly streamlines processes such as onboarding new employees, as permissions can be assigned much more easily and quickly. As a result, a new employee can get started in their new role much faster and more professionally.
Overall, the new functionality provides users with another incentive to make greater use of the Service Catalog. In addition, all approval and authorization processes are clearly documented and can therefore be traced at any time. This transparency offers a significant advantage during evaluations or audits.
Outlook
LIAM’s latest update is a significant step toward an even more user-friendly and time-saving access management solution. Future plans include further expanding LIAM’s feature set to enable even greater automation and time savings in IT.
